I had to go over to the Dallas Observer offices yesterday. On the way I heard about people taking HDR photos with an Iphone 3gs on the Macbreak Weekly podcast. I thought I would do some tests from the office of the Dallas skyline

So form here on out, or for as long as I can remember to do it, I’m going to start posting what I like to call Random Rant Friday. It’s going to primarily be just random stuff that has crossed my mind over the week, or maybe an outlook to what might be coming up. But totally random, like in the name.
This week is a multi-part-er.
Death
Well it looks like some very public figures have been passing away over the last few weeks, so I’m just going to throw a little rant down on each one.
David Carradine: At first I felt a little bad for his death, well for approximately 2 hours I felt bad. Then it came out that he died from auto-erotic asphyxiation, while dressed in fish nets, and a wig. Really dude? Come on. What’s wrong with just taking care of yourself the normal way? You don’t need trick ropes, pulleys, and who knows what else just to jack off. Maybe there should be some sort of law that once you get to the point of tricking up masturbation you loose all privileges of your penis. David was amazing in Kung-Fu, and amazing in Kill Bill. I remember watching him growing up in The North and The South mini-series and he was great in that (I wonder if Patrick Swazye or Kirstie Alley have anything to do with this?). But come on man, what a terrible way to go out. With all the greatness he has given us, I gotta give him Loser status. He was in Bangkok, Thailand for God’s sake, whore houses are like 7-11’s there.
Ed McMahon: Host of Star Search, side kick of Johnny Carson, and spokesman of the Publishers Clearing House. A true old school pimp. Ed has seen, and tagged it all. Even though in his later years he was pretty much broke, and couldn’t get around to terribly well, he still got much respect for the skins he hung above the mantle. His death wasn’t much of a surprise, but still a sad one.
Farrah Fawcett: Anal cancer. F’ing anal cancer. What a tragic turn of events her life took. She has the best selling wall poster ever, and appeared in Playboy at 50 and still sold 4 million copies of that. If you haven’t seen the Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner, I highly recommend it. Farrah took one hell of a beating on it, and delivered one of the most amazingly confusing roasts ever. She was hut, enough said.
Micheal Jackson: This will be short because I’m currently being beaten over the head with all the news reports about his death. Say what you want about the guy; crazy, insane, odd, weird, etc. But he was and always will be the King of Pop. Micheal Jackson has a back catalog that will stand the test of time, and will be inspiration for artist and singers for years. From Wikipedia: His awards include multiple Guinness World Records (eight in 2006 alone), 13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles in his solo career — more than any other male artist in the Hot 100 era — and the sale of over 750 million records worldwide, making him the world’s best selling male solo pop artist.
Other Junk
Okay since death is out of the way, let’s me rant about something different.
The weather. I live in Texas, and this time of year it is hot….extremely hot. I’m tired of people bitching about it, if you don’t like it move some where else. I am personally enjoying the heat his year, and I work out in it most of the day. Please stop bitching.
Skating. I got a little nostalgic about skating about 3 months ago. Growing up a friend of mine had a Mark Gonzales board that looked like the one on the far right in this picture:

He loved this board, and I thought it was bad ass. After doing some research I actually found a company in England making reissues of this board and set one up on order to give to him as a gift. Well long story short, shit hit the fan, and I cancelled the order, but I really wish I hadn’t. I think I’m going to start collecting old school decks and limited editions and line the walls of the studio with them. A lot of this has to do with some of my favorite artists doing limited edition decks, but I also think it would make for interesting art. Or I could always do something like what these people did HERE. It’s not a new concept to use decks for wall art, but like I said, I’m feeling nostalgic.
Transformers 2 makes me hate Micheal Bay even more.
Private Brutal Juice show…..I’m thinking YES!
Hung premieres on Sunday
A lazy weekend lies ahead. yay.
Oh yeah, the nostalgia I was feeling about skating comes from listening to Jason Ellis on Faction. Or you might have heard his interview on Stern this week. Pretty Rad.

Everytime I see a building with a clock on it, it reminds me of Back to the Future.

Just a couple of test shoots from this weekend with my Iphone 3gs. This first one is from a party with some good friends from Dallas. It was taken at night outside of Jack’s Backyard and Chill Grill, which happens to be a pretty cool joint in Oakcliff. Anyway, it was after dark and the lighting really sucked, which made for a good first test:
This next one was just a quick shoot out in my studio. We had the lights real low while working out some new tunes, and I thought I’d do another quick test in low light. Pretty interesting how the focusing works, but it’s still not a super awesome low light camera:

Just a test from the new telecommunicating device that fits slyly in my pocket.
Headed to Dallas to see Elizabeth and party with her crew for the evening at jack’s backyard.
